Day 7 zero day in Hayawassi

Took a break today to dry out and resupply food with Tarzan, Coffee Pot and Norseman. We were surprised to find John with his Chiwawa already here. We'll meet up with the rest if the gang on the trail tomorrow.

Day 4 Niels gap to low gap

The day was relatively easy with sunshine. 12 miles

Day 5 Low gap to tray mountain 15.6 miles

The day started out good but we ended up getting doused with rain. The top of the mountain was very very windy.

Day 6 Tray mountain to dick's creek gap

We woke up to snow and frozen clothing: shoes, mitts and caps were stuffed into backpacks to dry out at the end of the day. Might take a zero day tomorrow.

Day 3 blood mountain to Neel's gap

Woke up early to cold feet. Had a relatively warm night in the hammock and made it up and down blood mountain. Today we said goodbye to Jen, John and Jack, three section hikers from Georgia who made the beginning of the trail an awesome adventure. I am now at Neel's gap hostel with a gang of 16 others. The party continues - this time in the warmth.

Day 2 gooch gap to blood mountain 10 miles

The hike today was a lot shorter than yesterday. We ended up staying one campsite short of the shelter because we didn't have a bear canister and didn't want to risk a fine.

Day 1 springer mountain to gooch shelter 17 miles

The morning on the way to springer mountain, we all rammed into the van with great expectations. The 60 something woman sitting next to me was telling which brand of sleeping bag she uses to keep warm but whispered that she sleeps with the bag open because of hot flashes. The guy behind us who ended up leaving the trail piped up that he wished he had hot flashes.

After we piled out of the van it became apparent that most were not used to hiking fast.

I ended up doing a 17 mile hike to gooch gap. There were over 50 people at the first site. It snowed overnight and I woke up to frozen water.
